the sun interposed from below

choosing colors from a palette

I’m sure Watteau would know.

Noontide could not help but beat

the clouds to godly white;

but when the day did dim

they blushed in such romantic light.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It is the closing golden hour

when we the awestruck stand

beneath the only honest wealth

that sets sore hearts to mend.
