My journey to software development

The journey begins with writing codes

The creative skill to use stated and unstated logic to solve problems. This was what drove me into software development.

My journey into software development started in May 2018. A senior colleague of mine at work named Simon told me of a two-hour coding course in C++. He and some of his other colleagues do take the class every four times a week and I can join if I was interested. It was one of the most valuable pieces of information I got that year. I have always appreciated software development from a distance. Even though I took some software courses in my undergraduate degree program. I really didn’t know how to start and never had the opportunity until I met Simon.

I joined the class, and It was very engaging and challenging. I had to complete assignments coupled with my rigorous radio frequency job. I was also taking SQL courses in Codecademy and W3school. I love SQL. It was like Some of the commands I use to clean up my raw CSV data from our network server. I was passionate about working more on data, databases and automating my routine work. So I can spend more time honing my learned coding skills.

With the knowledge and skills, I got from my C++ program and my self-taught online SQL program. I created an Excel Macro that enabled me to automate the processing of my raw CSV data. This improved my efficiency by over fifty percent as well as my teammates with whom I shared my Macro. This ability came from my excellent excel skills and the skills I acquired learning C++ and SQL in my free time. It was at this moment, I made up my mind to become a full-time software developer. This will enable me to make a more positive impact both in the local and global environment.

Finally, I decided to quit my job and my eight years career as a radio frequency engineer in 2020. So I can dive deep into the world of coding. I attended Microverse, an online coding school. To allow me to learn and master every aspect of skills that professional programmers need in their daily lives. From technical skills(Ruby on Rails / React / JavaScript / HTML / CSS). To soft skills (Pair Programming / Remote Working / Team Collaboration / Mentoring). Now, I can build solutions based on ideas, solve business puzzles. Give professional advice with my business acumen and coding knowledge. I love to support businesses to grow by building applications that automate routine tasks. Workers can then focus more on the initiative and creativity aspect of the business.
