SOLID in work and life

This week began with the most fundamental and important part of coding that is the readability, scalability and structuring of the codes we write. All of us write codes to just work. We forget that part where we need to revisit it again, modify it and scale it. So just writing codes that work is not enough especially in a place where teamwork is important. As a developer, we forget that a code we write may decide the fate of a person. Developer who works with medical system should make sure that his program is able to correctly diagnose diseases and the developer who works with flight management system should ensure that his schedule should not cause conflicts with flights. So the programs that we write everyday influence people and their fates across the globe. So we should write them with the precision a doctor has when he does surgery.

So that is why readability and scalability of codes come in. The SOLID principle is a pioneering principle for writing good code. Abhilash’s session when into details of SOLID and how to use them tactfully. It gave me many new perceptions and ideas. Interfaces where things that we hardly used in our college. But through the sessions I partially understood the impact and resourcefulness of interfaces. I am still in the process of understanding the concept completely. The banking system assignment given by Karthik was an eye opener on the importance of a plan and a design for the system before implementation and how to work in teams and collaborate with each other. Usually when I write my programs I don’t plan it , I just make it work as the project progresses. It made the programs inefficient and a lot of time wasted on refactoring. The design of the banking system gave me inspiration to learn more about system designs and I even thought of choosing software architecture as a future prospect which I may or may not follow.

Apart of work, we had fun as usual in the weekends. We went to see Barbie which was so boring that I slept through the second half. I was also able to find a house for rent and will shift to it at the end of the month. That’s all for the week and hoping to have a great week next week.
