One reason to go for it as a Solo Female Traveler

Unexpected benefit = T R U S T

There were moments as I was packing my bags where I wondered about my personal welfare embarking on an international trip alone, knowing no one, to countries and cities I’m unfamiliar with.

The media loves a horror story, women abducted on foreign shores, robbery and thefts splashed about on social media….

So a slight frisson of fear felt natural, though I generally don’t operate from this space.

And here, 2 months in, I had a realization — traveling solo has increased my ability to trust rather than the opposite.

When there are more unknowns in my life than ever before, I first found it strange to feel an increase in trust.

The first surprise- being out in the world alone has helped me tune into my gut instinct on a much higher level.

It’s not that there’s not fear and uncertainty… its that I’m learning to rely more and more on my instinct, assessing both myself and situations, and leaning into gut feelings to move forward.

I used to get paralyzed with analysis, running through the infinite numbers of possible scenarios, everything that could go right but mostly all the myriad of ways things could go wrong.

Add in a few harsh self-judgments about past choices, and the fear of choosing poorly became amplified.

End result = indecision and inaction.

Down here, life moves slow but opportunities come fast. Standing around dithering is more dangerous than making a choice and moving forward.

I’m sure FOMO has something to do with it as well, but I’m finding that due to the transient nature of my traveling life, knowing these opportunities are short-lived is giving me the ability to cut through the noise of my active mind spinning scenarios and instead tune into the thread of intuition humming below it.
