Loving unconditionally demands the emotional courage to take the deepest dives into our own interiors while we discover what loving teaches. Loving unconditionally highlights our wounds as well as our powers. When we mirror the worlds of our partners, we become more emotionally vulnerable than at any other time. We sacrifice our egos on the altars of connection.

We grow up accepting that the only way to love is to impose conditions that protect us from doom. We construct emotional bunkers as defenses against the storms of our relationships. Our fears of heart-crushing pain eventually prevent us from having the best experiences of loving.

The unique bonds we forge when we give unconditional love in our romantic relationships look like this:
