Bring up Raspberry Pi without a monitor or keyboard

I have recently bought one Raspberry Pi 4B model and it didn’t come with any monitor or keyboard. I will note down all the steps I did to bring up the raspberry pi without using any display or keyboard.

Prerequisites:

[Installing Raspbian OS image]

I have downloaded “Raspbian Buster with desktop” which is around 1.1 GB in size. To get the image file (.img), we need to unzip the .zip file.

After installing balenaEtcher, open the software.

Browse the image file and select SD card to write (If it is not selected automatically), then click the Flash button, it will ask for UAC permission, click ‘yes’ and it will start flashing to the SD card as below:

It will take sometime to complete. When it gets completed, it will be ejected automatically, need to re-insert again.

[Configuration]

By default, SSH is disabled in the PI. So for enabling SSH, we need to create an empty file named as “ssh” (only ssh, no extension needed)

Now eject the SD card and plug it in the PI.

[Booting up]

Power on the PI, it will connect to my home WiFi router, I checked the IP assigned to the PI by logging in to my home router. (If you are using mobile hotspot, you might use Fing App to get the IP of the PI)

Now we can use that IP to SSH using Putty/Mobxterm/Xshell (whichever available), default username is “pi” and default password is “raspberry”.
