Carnegie Rule of Friendship

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you (Carnegie, 1936)

The above quote by Daniel Carnegie explicitly teaches the great lesson of life. In his book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” Carnegie gives the example of a dog, whose most concern in this life is to make his master happy and to show love and interest in his master, Carnegie gives the lesson of socializing by giving the analogy of dog’s love. It is highly important in socializing that you should be more interested in people rather people should be interested in you. Most of the time in life we are focusing on our self so much that we forget the people around us and the problems they are facing and fail to appreciate their accomplishments etc. Our self-center approach can be one of the reasons to have fewer friends in life. If and only if we build the capacity in ourselves to get interested in other people, being interested doesn’t mean sniffing in people personal affairs but rather focuses on them by paying attention to their talks and carefully listens what they have to say. Only then we can be able t make true friends in life who will always be there to help you and support you. Friends are one of the greatest blessing bestowed upon us by the Almighty. Friendship is only attainable when you are interested in people and not trying them to get interested in you. That’s the simple rule to get friends in life who will stay by your side. What the best thing it would be in life to have a friend who will be there when you need.
