Being Happy Vs Feeling Happy

I feel happy… am I being happy?

Are you?

Do you know??

Shall we break that down?

I can feel elated and happy because something wonderful just happened, I just got good news, I’m buzzing… then as I go about my day that happy shower, wears off.

I need another happy ‘fix’ to be happy.

Vs

I AM happy, just because.

BEING happy is different from FEELING happy.

I like to liken ‘being happy’ as a full body, cell fizzing, lightness that also feels grounded, calm, and well, just plain good.

Maybe a sprinkling on top of ‘extra happy’ comes when something awesome happens and I can appreciate and enjoy that, on top of my baseline of being happy.

But happy is the baseline. Hopefully, more days than not.

How do we get there?? This baseline of happiness?

That my friend is a fenomenal question and one I am asked over and over again. You have probably heard the phrase; Happiness is an Inside Job.. But how many ask, when I don’t feel that light fizz or calm you speak of?

Appreciation and gratitude are both HUGE factors in this! I know when we aren’t feeling happy appreciation on a cellular level, like I mean actually FEELING the appreciation, I’m not going to lie, it can be hard!

Start where you are.

Often that is acknowledgement of the sadness, fear, frustration that pops up in life. These feelings and others than keep us from happiness are all valid, and come from a place inside us that needs some attention, validation, understanding and love. Start here.

Ignoring those feelings does not make them go away.

Telling yourself you should be grateful, happy, content with life because you have it so much better than other people, doesn’t make it go away!

Pretending to be happy, doesn’t make those feelings go away.

Beating yourself up for feeling like that and sabotaging yourself or trying to drown out those feelings with something or someone, most definitely, does not make them go away.

Calling yourself stupid or selfish for feeling like that, will not make the feelings go away.

These behaviours may make it seem like they have been dealt with, as they go quiet for a while, but then it all comes back, doesn’t it!?!?

Imagine learning techniques to shortcut getting to the root of those beliefs. Techniques that can get to underlying beliefs and emotions you weren’t even aware had been screwing with your ability to BE happy.

Imagine having someone guide you and sit with you while you process that ‘stuff’ to shine a light into those spaces that, up until now, it has been easier and more comfortable to ignore, push away, depress, act over.

Stuff you have got so used to ignoring, you maybe forgot that it’s there, or even why it started in the first place, often we don’t even know these things (consciously) !!!

Being happy is available to you. It is available to ALL of us! We just have to choose it first, then choose it again and again. And listen, undestand thank and forgive all the ‘stuff’ that comes up as we keep on choosing the happiness path.
